WESTBAY BEACH kitespot – Kitesurf in Doha in on!!!

Fantastic start for Kitesurfing in Qatar in 2023, we eventually have a descent, twin-tip ridable spot in Doha to enjoy Shamal winds!

Spot location and access:

The spot is located in the heart of Doha – West Bay area – right in front of the skyline – parking slot are available in front of the beach. Plenty of empty places as not that much people are enjoying the beach during winter time. Check the map at the end of this news for directions

Enter the beach – it’s free until end February and under discussion with Beach Management after that time. At the entrance tell them that you are a kitesurfer – if any problem ask for the Manager and inform him that you find this new place on Flokiteschool website.

Who can ride there:

Any kitesurfer which is comfortable using a launcher (as there are not many people there) and can make small jumps as you will need to jump over the water line. So unfortunately IT IS NOT A SPOT FOR BEGINNERS – with NorthWest wind (dominant wind in Doha) it is a bit gusty on the beach and water is quite deep.

Launching Area:

Launch from the northern part of the beach, close to the seawall as the wind is more stable there. If alone there are sunbeds to attach a launcher. There is plenty of space for a safe launch.

Spot conditions:

The wind is a bit gusty close to the beach when it blows from NorthWest but as soon as you ride away to shore it is getting quite stable. The spot is a bit choppy as you are riding in a big bay but it is not worse than Zekreet or Fuwairit sea-side.

The spot is huge! you can ride up to the pearl and enjoy the skyline view on your way back…

There is one No-Go zone as per picture below – avoid this area if you don’t want to get in trouble with coast guards!

Wind conditions:

We have tested the spot two times and it was a great suprise – with NorthWest or even WestNorthWest the wind is not gusty as far as you get clear from the beach.

The spot will also work with North and North easterlies which means that for all kind of Shamal winds, which is predominant in Qatar is a go!!!

Other directions: West to South is no go for sure – Easterlies likely will be obstructed by buildings but remain to be tested.

Flokiteschool takes:

If you keep missing sessions because you don’t have time to drive 2hr back and forth to kite this spot is likely to be game changer for you. Every single day of blowing Shamal you could hit the water… enjoy!

If you are a beginner, take lessons and keep working hard and soon we will see you on the water in Doha 😉
